Release date

25^th^ November 2026

Welcome

Welcome to MIKE OPERATIONS 2027

In this Release Note, you will find information about new features of MIKE OPERATIONS and what you need to know to install and get started with Release 2027.

MIKE OPERATIONS is a software product designed for data management and model-based forecast services for online operational control of river systems, water collection systems and water distribution systems. MIKE OPERATIONS empowers you to build real-time systems by offering flexible tools that help you deal with complexities such as acquiring and combining online data sources in preparation for real-time modelling.

MIKE OPERATIONS is a product consolidation of software tools developed and applied in projects since 2012. Hence, although MIKE OPERATIONS is a relatively new member of the MIKE product family it builds on proven software products that already serve many customers worldwide.

System requirements

The table below shows the fully supported operating systems. Those are systems that have been tested in accordance with MIKE's Quality Assurance procedures and where warranty and software maintenance agreement conditions apply.

Supported Operating Systems

Note

When running a fully supported operating system as a 'guest operating system' on a virtualization platform, it is automatically downgraded to a non-supported operating system under the conditions provided above.

MIKE 2027 changes

Modernised .NET Platform

MIKE OPERATIONS 2027 ships on two frameworks. .NET Framework 4.7.2 is the legacy framework: it stays backward compatible with existing integrations, scripts and setups. .NET 10 is the new framework, where new development is happening going forward.

.NET10

MIKE OPERATIONS has been upgraded from .NET Framework 4.7.2 to .NET 10, bringing the application onto Microsoft's modern, actively supported .NET platform.

This upgrade provides several benefits:

  • Improved performance: Access to modern runtime optimisations, improved memory management, and more efficient execution.
  • Enhanced security: Benefits from ongoing security updates and improvements in the modern .NET ecosystem.
  • Long-term maintainability: Moves away from the legacy .NET Framework towards Microsoft's actively developed .NET platform.
  • Modern technology support: Enables better integration with modern libraries, APIs, development tools, and third-party components.
  • Future readiness: Establishes a modern foundation for future MIKE OPERATIONS development and new functionality.

This transition represents a significant technical modernisation, improving the long-term sustainability and extensibility of the MIKE OPERATIONS platform.

Recommandations

The recommandation is to start using .NET10 except if your system requires DIMS.Core or some of the legacy MIKE adapters below.

Manager .NET Framework 4.7.2 .NET 10
GIS Manager OpenStreetMap background maps only OpenStreetMap and MapTiler background maps
Time Series Manager DIMS.Core Not available
Scenario Manager all MIKE 11, MIKE FLOOD and MIKE HYDRO River adapters not available
Workflow Manager Built on Microsoft Workflow Foundation Built on ELSA workflows

Product invocation

Launch MIKE OPERATIONS 2027, MIKE Workbench 2027, MIKE Modelling Workbench 2027 or Database Management Utily 2027 from the Windows Start menu.

Breaking Changes

Model Predictive Control (MPC) support has been removed from the MIKE 1D adapter. Scenarios relying on MPC model objects are no longer supported.

The NWS (National Weather Service) adapter has been removed from MIKE OPERATIONS. Models using the SNOW-17, SAC-SMA, UNIT-HG or WEIGHT-TS methods are no longer supported.

MIKE Forecasting Workbench has been renamed to MIKE Workflows throughout the product. Only the displayed name changes.

Time series calculator formulas now use double quotes instead of square brackets ([ ]) to reference time series. Formulas saved with the old bracket syntax must be updated.

Downloading or importing USGS time series now requires an API key, ahead of USGS decommissioning its legacy waterservices.usgs.gov service. Existing jobs using the "Download USGS Daily Values" task and saved "Import from USGS" tools will fail until an API key (obtained from api.waterdata.usgs.gov) is added.

MIKE SHE now only supports rivers coupled as MIKE 1D models (.m1dx, from MIKE HYDRO River or MIKE+). Registering a MIKE SHE setup whose river is a MIKE 11 (.sim11) or MIKE HYDRO River (.mhydro) model now fails with "Please select a MIKE1D file".

Google Maps background maps are no longer available in MIKE Workbench or MIKE OPERATIONS Desktop. OpenStreetMap and "No map" remain available, and MapTiler background maps are added as a new option on .NET 10.

Adapter support

Adapter Status
MIKE 11 Present but not supported anymore (as-is)
MIKE FLOOD Present but not supported anymore (as-is)
WEAP Present but not supported anymore (as-is)
GoldSim Known bug with time series inputs; a patch is planned in a later release

New features

Every new release of MIKE OPERATIONS consists of new modules, new features and/or corrections to problems or significant inconsistencies discovered in previous releases.

Workflow

MIKE OPERATIONS 2027 moves its automation engine from Microsoft Workflow Foundation to ELSA workflows (see .NET10 vs .NET472 and Breaking Changes) - see here for how the ELSA Server, its database and the browser-based designer fit together. A new task combines ERA5, GPM and ECMWF rainfall sources into one dataset, with timezone-aware conversion and per-catchment download status. Another new task imports rainfall data directly, as part of a generally improved 1-click import process, and a new task can send email.

The ELSA Server now logs to a file instead of the Windows Event Log. The "Run Scenario" task's Start/End/Forecast times are now optional and the task reports the simulation's final status, its Approve input now works as intended, and it has been renamed to "Run MIKE+ Scenario". The "RunPythonScript" task now logs failures instead of failing silently, and handles script paths containing quotes.

1-click

This release improves MIKE OPERATIONS' "1-click" model registration and import tooling. 1-click registration and model run now support MIKE HYDRO Basin models, and 1-click import can now import the default ELSA workflow.
